Formalities & Procedure

Please note that the ceremony cannot be performed unless all documents are in order.

Above marked documents with asterisk (*) need to be certified with Apostile  (for your information, please note that the Apostille is a special seal, which is applied by legal authorities in order to certify that a document is a valid and true copy of the original. Usually, you can get it from your ministry of foreign affairs).

Then, all required documents (including the Apostiles) must be translated into Greek. Translation must be done by an official translator, stamped and legalized by the Greek Embassy or Consulate and accompanied by the original one.

All original documents with Apostiles and authenticated translated documents have to be faxed or e-mailed to the hotel at least 30 days prior the wedding in order to make sure that nothing is missing and that everything will be accepted by the Municipality office of Aghios Nikolaos. Upon approval, all documents must be sent to the hotel by courier at least three (3) weeks prior to the wedding.

All documents issued will not be given back to the couple since by Greek Law the Municipality Office is obliged to keep them in their archive.

NOTE

Please note that only in case that the original documents are in English, you may optionally forward to the Romance Department the original documents prior you proceed with the Apostile in order to be checked by the Municipality Office and based on the reply to proceed with the next steps. However in this case, there is the possibility that the Municipality Office will not be able to approve the documents if many legal terms are mentioned, if the document is very long or if there is any part which is not quite clear. Therefore, in other words in this case you will need to complete the procedure till the official translation in Greek, forward all original and translated documents to the hotel which will be sent for approval to the Municipality Office and inform you accordingly.
